Creating An Archive Site
Portfolio's are the best of the best, on display, formatted and edited to the teeth.
But what about the rest of it?
All the sloppy sketches, ugly study models, and ineligible notes left over and rotting in a Google Drive folder?
What a waste!
That work has informed the current moment and was once the shining jewel in a body of work. Or worse it's even better than the current work now!
What if it's more creative than the bland office building on the front page that is only display because it's current?
The portfolio must remain, of course, but why not crack the dusty crates open? Shine some light on the old!
All that is to say, I've created an Archive site (look above). It's an emptying of Google Drive folders, old hard drives and forgotten photos.
Some of the work is truly horrendous and hilarious. But it feels disingenuous to make work and not share it.
The archive isn't just for old work either. It's for the newest and latest. A pseudo-social media site where I can post my bad paintings and silly drawings.
I'd love to show photos, drawings, and work I've created in my professional life, but without asking permission from firms I no longer work at, that seems like an ethical/legal reach.
Thus, the work is either all me or stuff that I claim ownership in (and hopefully won't get sued over by saying that).
I encourage every architect, designer, maker, etc. do the same. Please reach out if you'd like some guidance on it, but it's better to share than hide.
